Sometimes a NOT so Great Notion
I have been dreaming ( or is that scheming ) of building a Willys Jeep Wagon into an affordable street rod. I knew I wanted a 2 wheel drive and I wanted the Woody look. The old wagons are plentiful and affordable and the cowl back could be out of the 30’s. I decided I wanted to put a 1933 Willys nose on a 50’s or 60’s Jeep Wagon. Not having a wagon or the nose I started doing computer mock ups and was happy with the look.
With good sense running on empty
With determination running over and good sense running on empty I found a Jeep Wagon on CL on the cheap. Pretty much bare with the exception of the body which I felt would make a good pattern. I then advertised for a 33 Willys front end and drove 500 miles to pick it up. YAY! Ready to go! Well not every dream has a happy ending.
’cause I was absolutely sure this would work
Not having anything on hand, and to lazy ( cause I was absolutely sure this would work and again good sense running on empty) to find the measurements of the 33 hood and the 50’s cowl, I didn’t worry about fit until I got the pieces together. Who would have thought that the wagon was 10 inches too wide?!? Can I see a show of hands?
One day I woke up old
One day I woke up old, past 60. And I don’t have the same; “I can do this ” , that I had at 30. So after staring at my pile of parts for a month I decided to pass on this one. I think a nose could be made that would have the right look and designed to fit the wagon, but ummmm…. prolly not by me.
Keep on Cruisin!
